As per the guidelines of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, a model crèche facility has been proposed for the welfare of the staff of the Dehradun Secretariat Complex. This proposed Doon Children’s Day-care Centre (Crèche), is to be located within the Dehradun Secretariat and developed under the program of Dehradun Smart City Limited. The facility is proposed as a single storied structure, having a ground coverage of 195 sq m. The proposed crèche facility is designed for 30 children, which included 24 children within the age group of 3 to 10 years and 6 children within the age group of 6 months to 3 years. Separate area has been provided for the infants and toddlers (6 months to 3 years). Physical environment of the crèche is kept suitable for children with special needs.The spaces provided in the layout include activity area which doubles up as the lunch/meals area, nursery, sleeping room, study room, play area, day-care office, kitchen, separate boys’ and girls’ toilets, and an outdoor play area.

 A separate study room has been provided, especially for elder children (school age children), who need to study quietly. The study room is also provided with a mini library, to encourage children to read books. Nursery is the dedicated room for infants and toddlers (6 months to 2 years aged children). This room is separated by partition from the common activity space and has the play, activity and sleeping area for the kids combined in one room. A separate room is provided for sleeping for children aged above 3 years. Bunk beds are provided in this room for sleeping of the children. The separate kitchen space provided is for preparation of meals for the children. Maintenance of hygiene is the prime consideration for the kitchen. Separate toilets are provided for boys and girls. Kids friendly fixtures are provided in the toilets. A small play yard is provided outside the crèche building. The play yard is so arranged, to provide ease of access to the play yard from the classroom and maximum adult supervision. Major types of playground equipment are slides, tyre swings, climbing equipment, sand and water table, playhouses, benches/seating, crawl-through structures, table/seating, balancing equipment, wheeled toys.
